| PM meets President Zardari |
Updated at: 1544 PST, Monday, December 21, 2009 ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Monday called on President Asif Ali Zardari hours after his meeting with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President and Chief Minister Punjab, Mian Shahbaz Sharif.The PM met with Sharif earlier today in Lahore and discussed the political situation of the country emerged following the Supreme Court’s verdict against National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) later last week. Two leaders agreed to continue process of reconciliation between the PML-N and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and enhancing coordination between the government and the opposition. Later, PM called on President Zardari at Aiwan-e-Sadr. Gilani apprised the President of his meeting with PML-N leader and discussed the ongoing consultation with government’s allies and other political parties to coup the current difficult situation for the ruling coalition emerged in the backdrop of SC’s verdict. Issues related to government’s routine affairs and the overall political situation were also came under discussion in the meeting. The PM and the President also discussed ways to implement the SC’s verdict and also exchanged views on the appointment of new chairman of National Accountability Bureau (NAB), as was ordered by 17-member larger bench of the apex court in its verdict of Dec 16, 2009. |
